The scared little girl
She hides and cries
Her tears soak her pillow
Her heart bursting in grief
Muffling her broken sounds
Behind the locked door
She is lonely
She hurts every time
When they shout
She does not understand
And yet they yell
She feels worthless
Nothing is enough
Her fingertips drop
Blood
Red against the white marble
The strings they cut
And she welcomes the pain
A proof that she is alive
Still alive
But yet she's insignificant
And she is punished
For unknown sins
Kept mum
The home she knows
So freezing and cold
She yearns for a bosom
She pines for a shoulder
To unleash her misery
But there is no one
She wants to run
Out into the black night
The locks, they hold her in
Imprisoned and broken
Poignantly she wonders
Why it was thus
But the gaping
The cold, chilly silence
The loathsome looks
They hold no answers
She tries hard
Works to make herself,
Worthy again
Of a smile,
Of love
She tries too hard
All in vain
And keeps up the pretence
Of happy childhood
She lifts her chin
And marches on
But it's too obvious
She is just
A scared little girl
Alone at her home.
